Vancouver Coastal Health now accepting applications for Fall 2013 Peer Support Worker training

Do you have personal experience receiving mental health services? Are you interested in working with people who are recovering from mental illness? Becoming a Peer Support Worker might be a great way for you to be a mentor for others and gain experience in the field.

  • Training is 6-9 hours per week
  • 36 hour practicum following training
  • Training is free for Vancouver residents; $350 for outside residents

Come learn more about mental health services at UBC and engage with us in meaningful discussion about how we can make the UBC campus environment more conducive to mental wellness. Dance Show to support Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre and BC Children’s Hospital

 

On Saturday, February 9th, a Dancing for Kids Charity Showcase will be held at the UBC Norm Theatre in the Student Union Building. All of the proceeds from the show will go to BC Children’s Hospital and Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre to promote Dance as physical exercise and physical/mental therapy. Admission: $10; $5 for age 17 and under–> there are no tickets; payment will be made upon admission to the event.Link for Facebook Event Page: http://www.facebook.com/events/345700032192134/

Last meeting of 2012 – Dec 19

We will continue with our current meeting schedule (Tuesday 5-6pm and Wednesday 12-1pm) up through Dec 19. After that we are breaking until the same schedule kicks in again the week of Jan 7, 2013.

So there will be no meetings on the following dates: Dec 25, 26 and Jan 1, 2.

Also, please mark in your calendar: due to a room booking conflict there will be no meeting Wed, Jan 23. You are welcome to come to our Tues group that week, of course!

Portrayals of Madness at UBC Thrive 2012

Come join us on at 6 PM this Friday November 9th for this year’s Portrayals of Madness event as we discuss how mental illness is depicted in cinema.  This is a free event and will be held at the Abdul Ladha Center on campus.  We hope to see you there!
