We will continue with our current meeting schedule (Tuesday 5-6pm and Wednesday 12-1pm) up through Dec 19. After that we are breaking until the same schedule kicks in again the week of Jan 7, 2013.
So there will be no meetings on the following dates: Dec 25, 26 and Jan 1, 2.
Also, please mark in your calendar: due to a room booking conflict there will be no meeting Wed, Jan 23. You are welcome to come to our Tues group that week, of course!
The Kaleidoscope is currently meeting on Tuesdays 4:00-5:00pm in the small meeting room of the CSI in Brock Hall. (on the main floor. If you have trouble finding us just ask at the CSI help desk – they are super nice).
If you’re interested in attending the group but this time doesn’t work for you please send us an email (below). We are thinking of trying to get an additional meeting time going, so if you would be interested and Tuesday afternoons do not work, let us know what time normally works for you.
On April 12 our meeting will be cut short (to 5pm) due to a change in CSI hours. We apologize for not being ahead of the curve on this. We may be changing our meeting time to 4pm for future weeks or finding a different meeting spot for the near future… please check in next Tuesday before coming.
Do you want to be part of a solution? Are you interested in changing the culture at UBC to be more aware and supportive of those with mental health concerns? Do you feel like the university community needs to be more engaged in providing for its students, faculty and staff good mental health practices like stress reduction and social support? Do you wonder how these things can be accomplished? Then you are invited! This free event includes lunch and an opportunity to engage in dialogue with others around issues of mental health promotion, policy and stigma. You must register in advance so that Sarah, the organizer, knows how many people to plan for! Hope to see you there for an inspiring day of planning and action. Read on for the details:
A dialogue about mental wellbeing
Amid news reports of university student depression, and a growing awareness of the importance of mental wellbeing for academic success at university, many students at UBC want to engage in a dialogue about mental health. New student initiatives have emerged such as the new Mental Health Awareness Club and The Kaleidoscope, among others.
In October, 2010, the second annual Healthy Minds – Healthy Campuses conference was held in BC. Many UBC groups and services sent representatives to this engaging two-day event where participants had an opportunity to explore issues related to university student mental health. As a follow-up to this event, Healthy Minds at UBC, in consultation with many of the groups who attended Healthy Minds – Healthy Campuses, is planning a one-day event at UBC to encourage dialogue about mental health, healthy minds, and decreasing stigma of mental illness.

PLACE: CENTRE FOR STUDENT INVOLVEMENT IN BROCK HALL
REGISTER ONLINE BY FEB. 23 FOR THIS FREE EVENT

Starting Tuesday, February 1 we are meeting in a new location. Please come to Brock Hall East Wing (here is a campus map with bus loop and Brock Hall circled).
Enter the building at the location circled in red on the close-up map. Head straight in, past the registration desks and stuff, and on your right you will see an area known as the Centre for Student Involvement (CSI). These folks have kindly allowed us to book their “small meeting room”, room 1024. There is a front desk; just ask them where the small meeting room is, and they should help direct you there. I will let them know people will be asking about “the Kaleidoscope” meeting. Sorry for the sudden change, and I hope this room works out nicely for us. Meeting time is still 4:30pm to 5:30pm on Tuesday afternoons.
