RISE – Kaleidoscope’s Support Group for Supporters begins Monday, October 6th

Who are we?

• RISE: Supporting all individuals impacted by mental illness
• R = Recognize that mental illness is a family illness that impacts all people involved
• I = Inspire hope
• S = Support
• E = Empathy

RISE is student-run peer support group for caregivers located at the Vancouver UBC campus. RISE is open to everyone, so if you are a caregiver to someone, whether it is a family member, a significant other, friend, or anyone else, you are welcome to come in and share.

Supporting others can be challenging and sometimes overwhelming. In giving care to others we often neglect our own needs and sometimes have no time for ourselves. Therefore, by coming to RISE, we hope to offer you a chance to relax and share in a safe, nonjudgmental environment. We hope that by focusing on your own needs and taking time to share in a safe space with a supportive group of people, you will be able to support your loved one more effectively.

In the group, we strive to keep confidentiality at the forefront. Hence we ask that when you come you not to share names or other forms of identifiable information about anyone in the group. This helps ensure we keep the space safe by protecting the privacy of the individuals who attend RISE.

We meet Mondays (except statutory holidays) from 5:30-6:30pm in room 1328 of the Neville Scarfe Building at UBC (2125 Main Mall). You don’t need to bring anything other than yourself. We will provide refreshments and some light snacks.
